It's been a rough couple of days in LA if you're Arizona. The #7 Wildcats suffered another loss against an unranked opponent. To Arizona's credit, they did show some fight when USC Trojans failed to put the game away in regulation. Much of the team stats were pretty even, except the Trojans forced the Wildcats into 19 turnovers while only committing 12 themselves. USC also shot 78 percent from the free throw line compared to Arizona's 68%.
USC held a 45-37 lead at the half and continued their strong play through much of the second half. They led by as many as 10 points, but the visiting Wildcats stormed back to force overtime.
Through much of the extra periods both teams continued to trade baskets. Free throws by Arizona's Kaleb Tarczewski tied the game at 101 with 51 seconds remaining in the fourth overtime. But, a costly foul on the following possession by Arizona's Justin Simon put USC' Elijah Stewart at the line for two. He sank both giving USC a two point lead with 22 seconds remaining. With Arizona failing to convert on their final possession, the Trojans walked off with the victory.
Five Trojans reached double figures to secure the victory led by Stewart's 25, Julian Jacobs' 18 point and 9 assist performance, Jordan McLaughlin's 17, Nikola Jovanovic' 17 and Bennie Boatwright's 15. Allonzo Trier' 25 points and Gabe York's 21 points paced the Wildcats. Dusan Ristic also chipped in 13 points in the loss for the Wildcats.
