Kentucky got off to a quick 5-0 start before Alabama got on board with their first points. Kentucky remained in control with their lead ballooning to 10 points, Alabama would bounce back to get as close as two points. But Alex Poythress and Jamal Murray combined for 31 points to give the Wildcats a 10-point halftime lead.
Neither team shot the ball well from three but the Wildcats converted 76 percent of their free throws compared to just 53 percent by the Crimson Tide. The Wildcats also had the advantaged of the boards with a 22-12 lead. Poythress and Murray paced the Wildcats at the half with 17 and 14 points respectively. Retin Obasohan paced the Crimson Tide with 14.
The Crimson Tide would rally in the second half to cut the WIldcats' lead to 4, but Kentucky answered with a run of their own and never looked back. Kentucky defense limited the Crimson Tide to 34 percent shooting for the game. The wildcats also controlled the boards enjoying a 42-22 advantage.
Three players reached double figures to help the Wildcats get the win on the road. Poythress finished with a game high 25 points to go along with 7 rebounds, Murray finished with 21 and Isaiah Briscore chipped in 12 points. Obasohan paced the Crimson Tide with 21 points, Arthur Edwards chipped in 11 for the home squad.
