#2 South Carolina came into this SEC showdown with no blemishes on their record. Kentucky game out the gate early and took advantage of the Gamecocks' offensive struggles, threatening to hand them their first loss. South Carolina stud Tiffany Mitchell was forced to the bench after two first quarter fouls and Kentucky raced to an early 11-3 lead behind seven first quarter points from Makayla Epps. The Wildcats led by as many as 11 points in the half. But South Carolina started to gain momentum scoring five straight points to cut the deficit to six with 1:54 remaining. Kentucky went into the break clinging to a 32-28 advantage over the Gamecocks. Epps paced the Wildcats with seven points. A'Ja Wilson led South Carolina with 11 for the half.

After trailing much of the game, a Wilson layup put the Gamecocks up one to end the third. The Gamecocks used a 12-0 run to gain control in the second half. They outscored the home squad 22-12 in the fourth quarter en route to a 73-62 victory. This win brings their record to 16-0, 4-0 in conference play. Kentucky suffered their second conference loss.

Wilson led the Gamecocks with game highs in points and rebounds with a double double of 26 and 13. Mitchell chipped in 16 points, and Tina Roy chipped in 12 points and four assist. Epps and Janee Thompson paced the Wildcats with 16 points a piece.
