Melo Trimble may have saved the Terps in their last outing, but he certainly did not play All-American Caliber basketball tonight as #3 Maryland fell to Michigan 70-67.
Michigan got off to a quick start in a game they led most of the night. Maryland led early 4-2 before falling behind then briefly regained a one point lead at the 5:43 mark. Michigan went on to take a 37-29 halftime lead.
Maryland shot 44 percent from the game and just 25 percent from three. Their starting backcourt of Trimble and Rasheed Sulaimon struggled much of the night scoring 10 points combined. Freshman center Diamond Stone did all he could to help Maryland rally for the win but their comeback fell short.
Michigan snapped a 10-game win streak by Maryland. Michigan never trailed by more than two points in the second half. They used a 13-8 run to create separation. Zak Irvin led the charge for the Wolverines with 22 points, Derrick Walton Jr. chipped in a double double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while contributing four assist. Stone led the Terps with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Jake Laymon also contributed a double double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
