Big 10 conference play started tonight with a showdown between Michigan State Spartans and Iowa Hawkeyes. Michigan state came into the game boasting an undefeated record and were ranked in the A.P Poll as #1 team. Michigan State already survived one near upset without their star Denzel Valentine who is missing time due to a minor knee surgery, could they survive another?
Michigan state struggled to get going offensively in this one and found themselves trailing the hawkeyes by 14 at the half. The hawkeyes never looked back as they went on to defeat the spartans 83-70 behind Mike Gesell' career high 25 points. It was Iowa's first win against a top-ranked opponent ever.
